Warehouse District and Harbour City
Traditional and modern Hamburg
This walking tour takes us from the UNESCO world heritage site - the Warehouse District- to the brandneu part of town- the Harbour City. Ten sometimes very differing quarters make up HafenCity; each has its own individual profile - and brings new qualities to Hamburg’s city center.
HafenCity Hamburg, on the site of the 19th century port, is setting new standards – at least in Europe – in successful integrated urban development that takes local requirements and high expectations of urbanity and sustainability equally into consideration. On an area of 157 ha, a lively city is taking shape, a new downtown on the waterfront with a fine-grained blend of workplaces and residential uses, education, culture and leisure, tourism and retail facilities.
